IN THE PANDEMIC…

A calming story during these unusual times

By Millie – The Accidental Cook

The father takes the young son by the hand and together they walk past the barking dog in the fence… the little boy has no fear of the dog. Little did he know, it was an attack dog. One move in the wrong direction… the dog was trained. Again, the little boy was without fear. You see he was in the care of his father and he had no reason to fear.

I was reading this morning from a pamphlet that was given to me some time ago by my friend Lois. She and I share a friendship with a lady from across the great big sea, that I believe came to know Christ through a ministry that publishes the pamphlet that I was reading.

Some years back this friend from across the sea came to the states to spend time with her family. On Easter Sunday morning as the churchgoers gathered, openly admiring the new clothing some were wearing, the visiting family members and the like. There was lots of fanfare, hugs and greetings. Then there was this precious lady in her modest suit, her grayed hair pinned close to her head, the sweetest smile, so caring, so loving. She had in her hands some small cards that she was placing in hands with a glint in her eyes as they passed by. She was quietly sharing her love for Jesus, the message she held so dear. It was there that I met Yolanda and I have been awestruck ever since.

Her love for the Lord showed on her face. She was in a different country and no doubt trying to understand our language was just as difficult for her as it was for us to understand her. She helped open my eyes to the scope of love our Father has for everyone. His love, His power, His care spans from the east to the west and the great big sea in between. His power has no limit and there is no problem too small or too great for His power.

You may be wondering about the dog, the little boy, and his dad. Well, the dad offered his big hand to his little boy and the little boy very wisely accepted the offer. The little boy knew that his Dad who loved him would also protect him even from the attack dog. The dog made lots of noise and probably said lots of things in dog talk in vain. The little boy’s dad was holding his hand.

Think about it, God has offered each of us His Hand. He owns the great big sea and all that comes with it, good or bad. Just as he allowed Lois and I and others in this part of the world the privilege of meeting and knowing, from across the great big sea, this dear precious child of His is offering that same hand to everyone.

The pamphlet that I was reading was the story of Noah and the ark. It is a familiar story to most and I have read it many times, even in my church school days as a teacher we made an ark from a kit that was very educational and enjoyed. I often wonder how bad the people were that so angered God that He brought the flood. Wonder what all Noah endured while he was building the ark? Wonder how many sneered at him openly or taunted him with uglies? Wonder how many sermons the people had heard about this Jesus or how many times He had protected them?

As I was reading this morning a short, simple verse spoke to me. Jesus was writing “Behold, I have told you before.” (Matt 24:25) Many parents have stated to their children, many times the same words.

God’s hand is extended. The little child accepted the offer of his father’s hand.

ANOTHER RECIPE BY MILLIE

HAMBURGER CASSEROLE

  • 1 ½ lb. hamburger
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 jar spaghetti sauce
  • 2 cups macaroni (cooked)
  • 1 cup grated cheese (I prefer Sargento sharp)
  • salt & pepper

Brown the hamburger and onions, then drain. Add sauce and simmer for approximately 20 minutes. Cook the macaroni and drain. Mix sauce, macaroni, and season with salt & pepper. Place all into an oven proof casserole dish, top with lots of cheese and oven cook at 350 degrees for approximately 15 minutes.

Tip – place an aluminum foil tent over to prevent cheese from over cooking. Enjoy!
